  • Carlsbad State Beach

    Just 5 minutes south of downtown, the Carlsbad State Beach features 44-acres of clean white sand beaches and scenic ocean access where residents and visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities from swimming and sunbathing, and more.

    The clear waters promise great scuba diving with great waves for surfing. Beachside amenities include bathrooms, showers, electricity, fire rings, multiple staircases, ramp access, running paths, volleyball courts, and running water.

    This site also features around 220 fantastic camping sites. On the beach, the pristine sands are great for beachcombing, having long relaxing strolls, and watching the spectacular beachside scenery. Several bars and restaurants are located nearby.

  • Carlsbad Lagoon
    4215 Harrison St.

    Located on the north side of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon near Interstate 5, the Carlsbad Lagoon offers two types of fun for water revelers.

    Those who want to get their adrenalin flowing will flip at the options available to them including wakeboarding, waterskiing, and zooming across the lagoon on jet skis. Equipment can be rented on site.

    For something a little more tranquil, there are stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, aqua cycles, and canoes you use. Rentals for small boats that can fit up to six passengers are also available.

  • Hosp Grove Park
    Corner of Jefferson St. and Marion Road

    This north Carlsbad destination features one of the most extensive trails in the city. The park offers welcome relief from the hustle and bustle that surrounds it.

    It has shaded unpaved trails, climbing more than a hundred feet at some areas and weaving around a huge grove of mature eucalyptus trees.

    A favorite among hikers and nature enthusiasts, the park features spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the Buena Vista lagoon. It’s also a great place to enjoy picnics and connect with nature.

  • Electric Bicycle Tours by Pedego Carlsbad

    Minutes away from the beach, Pedego Carlsbad is a bike store that sells their own brand of electric bicycles. They also offer bike rentals and fantastic guided bike tours of some of the city’s scenic spots and attractions.

    One of the best reviewed outdoor attractions in the city, Pedego Carlsbad’s tours offer a great way to get to know the city. You can go for miles on electric bikes without getting tired.

    Popular tours include trips along Historic Highway 101 and the Pacific Ocean. For couples, a seven mile tour passing through Carlsbad’s most beautiful beaches and lagoons includes sandwiches and provisions for a romantic picnic.

  • Buena Vista Lagoon
    Between Carlsbad Blvd. and Interstate 5

    The beautiful Buena Vista Lagoon is renowned for being the only freshwater lagoon in California. Located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, it lies between the border of Carlsbad and Oceanside to its north.

    The lagoon is home to a wonderful variety of resident and migratory birds and waterfowl. As such, it is a favorite among bird watchers and nature lovers. It features two well-kept trails and picnic facilities for visitors.
